Updating the Company Login

Project Goal:
The primary objective of this project was to redesign and streamline the application’s login and registration experience in conjunction with the company’s migration from a legacy authentication platform to a new Google-based system. Our aim was to create a clean, consistent, and user-friendly login flow that reflected updated company branding, reduced friction for first-time users, and remained feasible for the development team to implement within a tight deadline.

Tools Used:

  • Miro (collaboration)
  • Figma (wireframes and prototypes)

The team utilized Figma for interface design and prototyping, ensuring pixel-perfect alignment with brand guidelines and rapid iteration. Miro boards were used for collaborative workflow mapping, brainstorming, and capturing feedback from team members across disciplines. This combination of tools facilitated real-time collaboration and clear communication throughout the project.

The process

We began by conducting a thorough audit of the existing login and registration workflows, mapping each step to identify pain points and unnecessary complexity. The legacy flow required new users to navigate four to six screens, which we recognized as a significant source of user friction. Working closely with stakeholders and the development team, we reimagined the registration process, consolidating it into just two streamlined screens while still collecting all necessary information.

Throughout the redesign, we prioritized simplicity and consistency with the company’s current branding. Regular check-ins with developers ensured that our proposed flows were technically feasible and would not introduce undue complexity or risk to the project timeline. When technical constraints arose, we worked together to find alternative solutions that met both user and business needs.
Additionally, we reviewed existing workflows beyond just registration, identifying and implementing incremental improvements wherever possible without impacting the delivery schedule.

This holistic approach ensured that the entire login experience—not just the new user flow—was modernized and optimized.

Lessons Learned:

  • Early and frequent collaboration is key:  Communication between design and development is essential for identifying technical constraints and avoiding infeasible solutions.
  • Focusing on the highest-impact pain points allows for meaningful improvements: Even under tight deadlines you can make incremental updates.
  • Understanding user and business priorities is important: Maintaining clear priorities and open communication helps keep the project on track and aligned with business goals.
  • The right tools make the difference: Collaborative tools like Figma and Miro are invaluable for aligning cross-functional teams and accelerating the design process, especially when working remotely or under time constraints.
